Software Testing Engineer

Beijing Smartchip Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd.
Beijing

Summary

During my industrial placement at Beijing Smartchip Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., I worked as a Software Testing Engineer within the software testing team. I supported the verification and validation of High-speed Power Line Communication (HPLC) systems used in smart grid applications. HPLC is a communication technology that enables data transmission between power network devices through existing power lines. By using existing infrastructure, it reduces the need for additional communication networks and supports smart grid functions such as high-frequency data collection, outage reporting, and communication performance monitoring. My work focused on testing communication-based embedded systems and supporting software quality assurance activities. This experience showed me the importance of software testing in improving system reliability in industrial applications.

Role and Contributions

As a Software Testing Engineer, I supported the testing and verification of HPLC systems during software development. My responsibilities included preparing test environments, executing functional and protocol verification tests, analysing communication logs, recording test results, and performing regression testing after software updates. I also contributed to the verification of topology identification and phase identification functions by evaluating system performance under different communication conditions. When abnormal results occurred, I investigated possible causes through log analysis and comparison with previous test results. I reported the findings to support further debugging and software improvements.

Technical Skills

Through my work on HPLC system verification, I gained practical experience in embedded communication systems, software testing, protocol verification, and communication log analysis. Working with industrial HPLC systems also gave me a better understanding of communication between embedded devices in smart grid applications. In addition, I developed skills in analysing system behaviour, identifying potential issues, and applying structured testing methods to assess software performance and reliability.

Professional Skills

Working as part of an engineering team improved my communication, teamwork, and organisation skills. Through collaboration with testing and development teams, I learned how to communicate technical issues clearly and provide structured information to support problem investigation. I also became more independent in managing assigned tasks, following testing schedules, and taking responsibility for completing work effectively. These experiences also improved my ability to collaborate effectively with others.
